How to Qualify for the Pokémon World Championships 2027 in Singapore

The 2027 Pokémon World Championships are coming to Singapore. They run 13–15 August 2027 at Singapore EXPO, finishing with the grand finals at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Championship Sunday.

The Pokémon Company announced it at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Worlds in San Francisco on 31 August 2026.

It's the first time Singapore has hosted, the first time anywhere in Southeast Asia has, and the first Worlds in Asia since Yokohama in 2023. For Singapore VGC players, it's a home event.

Getting a seat is the hard part. This is the VGC route for Singapore residents.

One note before we start. The Trainer Shed is a player-run community. We're not an official Pokémon organiser and we have no affiliation with TPC or TPCi. Everything here comes from public announcements, so confirm the details on the official page before you plan around them.

The short answer

Singapore VGC players have two official events this season:

1. The Singapore Premier Ball League — 12–13 December 2026, Suntec Convention Centre
2. The Singapore Master Ball League — date not yet announced

That's the whole local calendar. The top finishers at each earn a Worlds invite, and there's no points system or leaderboard behind them — you either place or you don't.

What is the Premier Ball League?

The Premier Ball League is a Regional-level event in the Pokémon Asia Championship Series. It was TCG-only last season and returns for VGC in 2026–27.

The VGC section of the official page still says "coming soon", so what's below is the shared event info that applies to both categories:

Premier Ball Leagues hand out the first direct Worlds invitations of the Asia-Pacific season, so this is the earliest chance to lock in a seat.

What is the Master Ball League?

The Master Ball League is Singapore's national championship and the biggest VGC event of the local season.

The 2026–27 date hasn't been announced. Last season's ran in late May.

It's also where Travel Awards come from: TPC covers flights and accommodation for the top Asia-Pacific finishers. That's worth less when Worlds is already at home, but the invite still counts.

There is no points system in VGC

VGC in Asia-Pacific has no Championship Points and no League Points. Those belong to the TCG side of the Championship Series and to TPCi regions.

So there's no leaderboard to climb and no way to grind your way in. Invites come from placing at the Premier Ball League and the Master Ball League, and nowhere else. Two events, and no second chance.

Online qualifiers are coming

TPC has said online qualifiers will run for both Premier Ball Leagues and Master Ball Leagues this season. No details yet. If you've missed a seat at a live event before, keep an eye on these.

What you need to play

You need Pokémon Champions and a Trainers Website account to register. Champions runs on the Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED, and Switch 2, and there is a mobile version.

At Championship-level Play! Pokémon events — Regional Championships, International Championships and Worlds — it's Nintendo Switch only, with officially licensed wired controllers and wired headphones, no wireless. The Pokémon Asia Championship Series is run separately by The Pokémon Company under its own rules, so the PBL and MBL could set different requirements.

We can't confirm whether mobile devices are allowed at Singapore's Premier Ball League or Master Ball League. TPC hasn't stated it either way, and we haven't seen it confirmed anywhere. Be sceptical of anyone who says otherwise without an official source.

Victory Road reports the mobile app can compete in Asia-Pacific this season, and the Indonesia Premier Ball League is mobile-only — but that's because Nintendo doesn't operate in Indonesia. Neither tells us what Singapore will allow. If mobile is all you have, wait for TPC before you assume you can play.

What to do right now

1. Set up a Trainers Website account if you don't have one. Do it before VGC registration opens, not during.
2. Block out 12–13 December and note the venue — Suntec Convention Centre, Halls 401 & 402.
3. Get reps in tournament conditions. Ladder is best-of-1 with closed sheets, so it trains a different skill set from what these events ask for. Play grassroots and community tournaments where you get best-of-3, open team sheets, and the chance to practise reading a list and adapting between games. Keep up with the meta too, especially around rule changes.

Which devices are allowed at official Play! Pokémon events?
Championship-level events — Regional Championships, International Championships and Worlds — are Nintendo Switch only (Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED or Switch 2). The mobile version is limited to store-level events such as Open Play Sessions, VGC Cups and Challenges. The Pokémon Asia Championship Series is run separately by The Pokémon Company under its own rules, so check those for each event.

What are the controller and headphone rules?
At Championship-level Play! Pokémon events, only officially licensed wired controllers and wired headphones are allowed, connected directly to your system, with Joy-Con controllers kept attached to the Switch — no wireless. The Trainer Shed does not enforce this at its own events, but if you're preparing for a Regional or above, practise with a wired setup.

Can I play on mobile at the Singapore PBL or MBL?
We can't confirm this. TPC hasn't stated whether mobile devices are allowed at either Singapore event, so don't assume you can play on mobile until there's an official announcement.

Do I need to be a Singapore resident?
Yes. Both events are restricted to residents.
