Pokémon Champions is an upcoming Pokémon game announced by The Pokémon Company, scheduled for release in April 2026. It represents a significant new direction for the competitive Pokémon scene and is widely expected to become the primary game for VGC (Video Game Championships) competitive play.
While exact details about gameplay mechanics, the roster of Pokémon, and competitive rules are still being revealed, Pokémon Champions has generated enormous excitement across the global competitive community. The game launches on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with mobile device versions planned for a later date.
The transition from the current VGC format (Pokémon Scarlet & Violet) to Pokémon Champions is anticipated for the 2026-2027 competitive season, meaning official Regional Championships, International Championships, and the World Championships are likely to be played on this new title.
